I'm basically better! All I have right now is a small fever. I have some tips and things you can do to avoid getting dengue fever!
Well, I hope you guys never have to go through this! I'm heading back to the U.S. in a few days so I'm going to try to cram some fun things into my last days so I probably won't have much time to post anything. See you guys back in the states! :)
- Install screen doors
- Avoid opening windows
- Wear long pants and socks (protective clothing)

I found some information about the Aedes aegypti mosquito
and Aedes albopictus mosquito (they transmit dengue).
This is the Principal vector for dengue fever, it's an invasive domestic species. It is found worldwide in tropical and subtropical regions. The mosquito originated in Africa and is difficult to eliminate because their eggs can survive without water for several months. Hundred and thousand of Aedes aegypti are born each day.
This is also an invasive species that transmits dengue fever. They originated in Asia.

You guys! It's eleven, eleven, make a wish! My wish? You guys can probably guess what I want, to get better! Especially since today I was going to go down to Taichung to see the mountains. *sigh* But actually, I think my health is improving! My red rash is fading and my fever has gone down. Even though I"m getting better, I've decided not to go outside so I don't risk other people getting dengue fever. I still need groceries though, so I asked someone to bring them over to the apartment I'm renting. Well, I think they'll be here soon so I'm going to go make myself look presentable, lately I've been wearing sweats and sweatshirts ( I know I'm in Taiwan, but I have a fever!)

Since I can't go out while I'm sick, I've been doing some research on the history of dengue fever. The four virus types originated in monkeys in the Southeast Asia and Africa 100-800 years ago. The first acknowledgement was in 265 A.D. in a Chinese disease, symptom, and remedy encyclopedia. They called it water poison. They thought that the disease was connected with flying insects and water. Pretty smart, right?

I haven't been feeling any better but I have been doing some research on
dengue fever. Dengue fever is most common in tropical and
sub tropical areas since that is where there are the most
mosquitoes. But dengue fever can travel to nontropical areas too, because
it is possible that a person with dengue fever will travels there are
and a mosquito will bite them and then bite someone else. Also, I read a report in the Wall Street Journal on a large number of dengue fever cases. It said that the number of dengue fever cases is rising.

As my doctor predicted, I have dengue fever. The strain of virus that I have is Den-3. It doesn't really matter though since the symptoms and way they are treated are the same.
Also, remember that aspirin I took for my headache? Well, my doctor told me that doing that was a bad idea because it thins the blood. Anyway, I'm not feeling very well right now so I think I'm going to rest for a little bit.

I have some bad news. My doctor told me that I probably have dengue fever. there is no cure for this and no vaccine since it is hard to create a vaccine for dengue fever since there are four types of the virus: Den-1, Den-2, Den-3, and Den-4. Luckily, it is usually not fatal. The fatality rate she told me, was 1%and 5% for hemorrhagic dengue, which is more severe.
My doctor recommended that I just get plenty of rest and fluids, and wait for it to clear up on its own. She told me that all of the symptoms match up and since dengue fever is transmitted by mosquitoes, it is very likely that I have dengue fever. To be sure though, she's sent in a blood sample to have tested. If it is dengue fever, they'll also test it to see what virus type out of four I have. I'll post my results when I get them back.
